At Jovie, we believe that nannies deserve to be celebrated every day of the year. But this week offers an excellent opportunity to pause, reflect, and show just how much we value their dedication. The work they do—from managing schedules and preparing healthy meals to fostering emotional growth and making sure little ones feel safe and loved—is truly invaluable.

Why Nannies Are More Than Just Caregivers

A nanny’s role goes far beyond the daily tasks. They are confidants, educators, and compassionate guides who cultivate deep, meaningful connections with the children they look after. They are the consistent, reliable presence that helps a family thrive. They’re there for the first steps, the silly jokes, and the heartfelt hugs at the end of a long day. This profound connection is at the heart of the nanny profession.

It’s this unique bond that truly defines the role. A professional nanny brings expertise, creativity, and a calming presence to the home, allowing parents to pursue their careers and personal passions with complete peace of mind.

For many of our own nannies, this relationship is the most rewarding part of the job. As Jovie nanny, Suzie James, beautifully puts it:

“I know through my experience that the families have a sense of peace knowing that their child is being cared for. They are able to go to work/take care of business without any worry about the care for their child.”

Celebrating Your Nanny: Simple Gestures, Big Impact

If you’re wondering how to show your appreciation during this special week, a thoughtful gesture can make all the difference. It doesn’t have to be elaborate; it just has to come from the heart.

    • A Simple “Thank You”: Take a moment to write a heartfelt card or send an email expressing your gratitude. Be specific! Mention something small they did that made a big impact, like helping with homework or comforting your child during a difficult moment.
    • Show Your Appreciation with a Gift: A gift can be a great way to say thanks. Consider a bonus, a gift card to their favorite store or a spa, or a subscription service they’d enjoy. Don’t forget to involve the kids—a small, handmade drawing or craft can be a touching gift.
    • Give Them a Break: Offer to give them a paid half-day off, or perhaps a later start time one morning. The gift of extra time can be incredibly meaningful for a hardworking professional.
    • Acknowledge Their Expertise: A nanny’s job is often a mix of skill and instinct. Acknowledge their professionalism and expertise. Tell them how much you trust their judgment and how impressed you are by their approach to your children’s needs.

A Look Inside the Jovie Nanny Experience

At Jovie, we are proud to support an incredible community of professional nannies. They are the foundation of our service, and their commitment to excellence is what makes us a trusted partner for families nationwide. Being a Jovie nanny means being part of a team that values professional growth, provides ongoing support, and celebrates every success. Our caregivers love their work, and their passion shines through in everything they do.

Here’s what more of our dedicated caregivers shared about their experience:

“I have a huge passion for caring for children, and this is one of the major reasons why I chose the childcare field,” said Tamiko Williams of Jovie of Wheaton. Tamiko has been providing childcare since age 14 and joined Jovie a year ago. “My love, compassion, and nurturing nature encompass my lifelong commitment to helping children grow and develop in every area of their lives. This is what drew me into the childcare industry,” she said. Tamiko emphasized her larger role within families and her community as a nanny. “I see my role as a nanny helping to build stronger family relationships, communities, and villages by way of sharing vital information, knowledge, resources, and experiences with those families I’ve worked for over this past year. Communication, both written and verbal, is definitely a tool I use when caring for the most precious jewels in the family, which are the children.”

Pam Gaspard of Jovie of Pittsburgh was seeking a fulfilling role after a career in education. That’s when she found Jovie. “I spent 30 years as a teacher, mostly in kindergarten, first, and second grade. After I retired, I wanted to keep working with children, so I applied to work at Jovie,” she said. Pam has found fulfillment during her retirement as a Jovie nanny. “I work mostly as backup care, and I really enjoy it. I like having a flexible schedule and working with a variety of families and children of different ages. It is very rewarding to be able to help out families when they need me. I’m happy to be putting my years of experience to good use to strengthen families and enrich children’s lives.”

Suzie James joined Jovie of Los Angeles, Lake Forest and Tustin in October 2022 after 35 years in caregiving roles. “I have absolutely loved working as a nanny. I have built some great relationships with these families. I know without a shadow of doubt that I am fulfilling my purpose and using my gifts in helping these families through the growth of their children and as parents,” she said. One special highlight of the job? Watching children she cares for grow over the years. “I love being able to nurture and watch their development as I have numerous families that I have cared for when they were newborn/infants to now toddlers. I also love building relationships with the parents, ensuring that their child is given the best care possible.”
